N.A.A.P. SERVICES
HIV / AIDS Service
Case Management Services
Individual
needs assessment, referrals for support groups, legal assistance, housing,
food, clothing, benefits counseling, client activities and therapy.
Peer Advocacy
Provides
individual practical and emotional support services and works closely
with the Case Manager and Treatment Advocate to engage and maintain
high risk, hard to reach clients in HIV care services.
Mental Health and Traditional Healing
Provides
traditional healing, ceremonies, spiritual guidance and psychotherapy.
PREVENTION SERVICES
Prevention Case Management
Assists
individuals who are at high risk for HIV transmission due to co-factors
such as substance abuse, STD treatment, mental health and social and
cultural factors.
Encourages
behavioral changes through one-on-one sessions, individual risk reduction
counseling or single session groups.
Risk Reduction
NAAP
offers drop-in individual risk reduction counseling. To take advantage
of this service, please visit the NAAP office during office hours.
Community Outreach
Health
Educators provide outreach at various Native Community events (Pow-Wows, etc.), as well as gatherings that pertain to the
overall community (health fairs, etc.) to disseminate factual information on various HIV statistics involving
the Native Community, provide educational information on HIV and STDs etc.
Events Schedule
NAAP has
created weekly talking circles and other weekly activities as an opportunity
for San Francisco Native Americans from diverse lifestyles to join together
and discuss issues that are relevant to their reality and struggles.
Facilitated
by NAAP Health Educators, talking circles represent a forum where issues
ranging from health, substance abuse, spirituality, sexual orientation,
emotional challenges, and culture are shared and supported by community
members.
It is NAAPs continued mission to provide HIV / AIDS services in
a manner that is respectful and specific to Native American Culture.
