Peer Advocacy

The Peer Advocate works closely with the case management team to best support client-centered prevention and care services. The Peer Advocate provides short- and long-term emotional and practical support for clients. The NAAP Peer Advocate often serves as the link between clients and service providers, helping to explain client’s concerns and needs and in navigating medical and social service providers. The NAAP Peer Advocate works to inform Native American clients on western medical philosophies and the health care delivery system. In addition, the Peer Advocate educates Native American client’s who have recently relocated from rural areas to the cultural norms of urban life and provides support in client’s building their individual support networks. Peer Advocate services include accompaniment to appointments with clients, grocery shopping, household chores, locating employment, assisting in outreach, assisting in health education, and facilitating client activities and special events.
